Your mind is the most technologically advanced vehicle in the galaxy. It conducts millions of trips at light speed each second. It made me think that perhaps this mind vehicle needs to be serviced and maintained in the same fashion as our cars do to stay at top performance. Whether we decide to use our mind on a relaxing cruise up the pacific coast highway or push it to the limit in a formula one race, the concepts of practicing self-care are essential in any scenario.
Only use premium gas. If your mind needs gas, I’d think it would come in the form of fuel you give it. As it pertains to our bodies, that would be food. If you owned a trillion dollar spaceship, would you put inferior fuel in it? That’s what we do when we choose to eat junk and fast food. I get it, the cheap and satisfying taste of carbs, oils, and fats are the quickest and easiest way to get fuel in sometimes but how much would that effect our performance? It’s a lot more than we think. I like watching Supersize Me from time to time and the 30-day McDonald’s diet coupled with the physiological and psychological changes that occurred from a poor diet was enough proof for me. Food is something I enjoy immensely and I do partake in anything I want once a week. For the other six days, it’s a strict diet of the same two meals each day.
Upgrade parts. The quickest way to get more performance out of a vehicle is to upgrade to more efficient systems. When it comes to the mind, I like to think of this as learning useful things. Like most budding entrepreneurs, I had to go through a continuous transformation of being able to change the construct of my mind and the way I thought about things. The quickest way to do that is changing the input. I immerse myself in plenty of positive-natured self-help books and learning new ways to see the world. Ideally, it’s a more positive outlook on people that internally changes my dialogue with the world. I don’t assume the worst in people. Lay off the news, social media, video streaming services, and bask in what the mind considers boredom. A lot of great things come from there.
Change the oil. Sometimes the oil that lubricates the mind needs to be changed out. These are the elements of our minds that get stuck in a specific pattern. I followed one pattern to gain me a small level of success and started to recognize this pattern will not get my business to the next level. I need to change the oil and that means changing my environment and associations. I look for people who share the same fire and desire to become a better person, wealthier, healthier, and free. This part can be difficult at times but like a car, it needs to be done. Don’t wait for the warning light to go off and cause your mind to fail at the worst possible moment.
Drive really fast. Sometimes we need to find out how fast we can really go. Remember that the mind itself is limitless and can travel at the speed of light. It’s our beliefs that create the speed limits on the mind. To go fast, it means embracing fear and understanding that sometimes doing the opposite of our intuition is ultimately the safer choice. By breaking through speed limits and forcing ourselves to think bigger, we can expand the roads we are able to travel. One lane becomes 10 lanes and it becomes easier to pass other cars and obstacles of life. I feel like I’ve been on auto-pilot and need to employ these strategies again. God’s speed.
